The fourth bonus episode of The Source Material, the first of two conversations with Jared Beasley.

Jared Beasley is a journalist who spent three years writing The Endurance Artist, the only authorized biography of Gary Cantrell (Lazarus Lake) and the Barkley Marathons. To earn Laz's trust, he had to solve a math problem, run a backyard race he quit when it got hard, and wait for an email he wasn't sure would ever come.

This episode is the field interview: Doc and Jared at Frozen Head State Park in March 2025, in the days around the race. Jared had been awake for most of three nights. He was remarkably clear.

You heard pieces of this conversation in Episode One of the documentary. Here you get the full interview: on the ground, inside the story, with the energy of someone who has just watched something extraordinary happen.

Next week: Jared in the studio - a different conversation, a different clarity. This week: the field.
